We step off our first journey upon the Greyhound and after two hours of driving by nothing but sugarcane and banana plantations we arrive in the small town of Mission Beach. After checking in we head straight to the palm fringed beach and check out the remnents of the destruction left by Cyclone Yasi. Mission beach was stripped bare by Cyclone Yasi which hit in february last year and although the rainforest and town has quickly recovered the palm trees along the beach still lie squished and flat along the beach.
Our main reason for visiting Mission beach is so Tom can carry on his adrenaline junkie phase and throw himself 14,00 feet out of a plane. The morning is dull and very overcast and as Duke, Widdow and I wait for Tom to land along the beach in the torrential rail we all agree its very unlikely Tom is going to jump today. We find shelter in a little beach hut and wait patiently for Tom to come flying down from the sky. Fourty five minutes later we're drenched and theres no sign of Tom, we agree to head back to the hostel as his dive has probably been cancelled.... 10 minutes later Tom walks through the door with a big grin on his face and big fluffy hair. He loved it and cannot put words to his current feeling, once the rush and flow of adrenaline has calmed he describes his sky dive as the best thing he has ever done. Well, rather him than me. Tom is making me feel rather boring, hes galavanting in the air and under the sea whilst I remain firmly on the ground.
Once the rain finally gives in we make the most of our afternoon and lie on the soaking wet sand determined to catch a few rays after the torrential down pour earlier this morning. Two hours later with our vitamin D levels restored to a happier level we jump on the Greyhound to Townsville where we spend the night before hopping onto a ferry destined for Magnetic Island.
