Magnetic island also affectionatley known as "Maggie" is our next stop down south. Only a 20 minute ferry ride from Townsville its the perfect spot to spend a few days basking in the sunshine and topping up our tans (The South Australia weather has done no favours to our tans). We arrive at the Island to a very welcoming 30 degrees and arrive at our hostel; Base. Now this is a pretty swanky hostel, we have managed to bag another 6 bed dorm with just the 4 of us in. There hostel grounds are huge with a private beach and swimming pool where you can take a free complimentary introductory dive. Palm trees are scattered throughout the grounds and there are a few bars serving reasonably priced food and drinks. We have two nights here, after being on the road for only a few days im already looking forward to staying put for 2 nights.
I spend a solid 5 hours assuming the star fish position taking naps every now and again until I have turned a few shades darker. I spend most of the day alone, Tom is happy to have some male company and is making the most of this time by playing pool and drinking beer amongst other things that boys do. However I am equally happy, can you imagine the anguish of returning home after 4 months away with no tan and having to explain multiple times to your friends its actually winter in Australia. Its nice to have some alone time anyway, I have to make the most of it seeing as its going to be a rarity now.
That night I recieve an email from Trent saying that they have found me a placement school, So looks like im going to be a primary school teacher after all! I plan to be a modern version of Miss Honey (from Matilda) and although I still have mixed feelings about the whole situation I get a little excited thinking of my future career particularly the 13 weeks of paid holiday each year. My travelling life style will go on!
Tom and I have been thinking long and hard since Adelaide stole our heart. As Tom is unable to train in the Police force here ( You have to be an Australian citizen etc etc) and I have a training course to finish we will spend the next year in England before returning to Australia again except this time with a working visa. Until Tom becomes a Policeman I will be a the driving force behind his desired life here in Australia. I have been told I will hold the ticket to our visa applications as a Primary School teacher and I should be snapped up like a hotcake. Adelaide will be our chosen city where we will spend our weekends pretending to be pirates with Dave and his friends as well as camping in the Flinders range where we will swap manly stories on the regular.
