Katie's Travels in Italia
I don't know where to begin today. If I haven't responded to your emails, I'm really sorry. I have limited internet access.
Fiesole was beautiful. It is a hill overlooking Florence. It even has an amphitheatre!
Thursday is another story. One of my italian teachers told me during class and several times after that I can't speak Italian. We had to stay after class and go over some stuff, and for some reason he felt the need to repeat himself. I just sat there thinking, "I know this. You don't need to repeat yourself." but I didn't say anything. Good me. He also yelled at me for being late. I forgot about having to stay after class. And I just stared at him blankly. I was really upset after this. So the next day on our midterm, when I was still mad, I decided to write the honor pledge on my exam. I didn't know that he couldn't read english. Oops. He ran out of the classroom and ran to the director of my program to ask her what it said. This amused me immensely. Probably more than it should have. Haha.
Then Thursday afternoon I went and saw David. He is ginormous. Seriously. And his hands are so big. Nice to see. But really, art history is not my thing.
Oh, Wednesday night I was walking home with two of my friends. We stopped in the middle of the street and were talking and then out of the blue I saw my cousin Matt come walking down the street. I then proceded to wonder around the streets of Florence with him. Haha.
Friday I went and visited the Palazzo Vecchio. It was awesome. I will have to post my pics from it later. It is an old building that used to serve as the ducal palace and offices.
But the best part of this week was Cinque Terre. It is absolutely breathtaking. It rained, but it was still absolutely gorgeous. I'm think about forgetting retiring in Florida and trying to retire here. We hiked a trail and then went down to the beach. We walked around the citties too. It is probably my favorite thing we have done so far, although I really loved Venice, too.
Sunday I went and had an "american breakfast" which consisted of scrambled eggs soaked in olive oil, pig fat, lettuce, cold toast, and tomatoes. Not so good. Oh well. Then I walked around with Matt and had dinner with him. The best thing though: I went to an Irish pub and watched the dolphins game!! Bad part: the dolphins lost. boo. Newob sent me a message reminding me of it.
Oh, two scary things that happened to me. The first was when I had to buy laundry detergent. I'm really allergic to it, and I really didn't know which one to get. So I just kind of stared at all the detergents. I finally went with the woolite because I knew it wouldn't bother me. But it was a big decision.
Second thing: having to ask the hotel to let a really drunk guy in my program into his hotel room. The guy was really really pissed off. And I am sure he was thinking, "Stupid american." Oh well.
Btw...I got an A on my midterm. And I didn't study for it. Yay for me.
I think this is all for now. Tomorrow I go to Pisa...if I don't get hit by a moped/car/bus before then. Haha.
Miss you all!
