I woke up on my last day in Malaysia to a beautiful sunrise. Dad and I went for our final run along the beaches before finishing packing the rest of our gear. We checked out and moved our luggage to the hotel's café to wait for our boat transfer. Several Sudokus later we hopped aboard the boat back to the mainland. From there we had a wait for our taxi back to the airport so grabbed some lunch before our last drive through the coutryside in time for our transfer to KL.
The flight was uncomplicated but since it returned us to LCCT Dad and I jumped on a bus to go and pick up the hire car from the main airport. It was in quite a bit better condition than the one we had in Langkawi and within no time we drove back to LCCT to pick up Mum and Kerry.
From here we were to go our separate ways so we decided on one last meal together at the Pan Pacific Hotel before the parents headed off for their hotel on the way to the Cameron Highlands. Kerry and I chilled in the posh hotel for a few hours, enjoying hot chocolate and cake before taking the hotel transfer to the main airport.
After failing to get an upgrade: me 'do you have any free upgrades', check in 'yes that will cost £1500 to Dubai', what do you think 'free' means???, we wondered around the airport shops and settling down at our gate.
It was much nicer having someone with me for the journey back. We both got through a few films and once again enjoyed the food before a stop off in Dubai for a few hours before continuing on to Gatwick.
I can say I was thrilled to get back to England but we weren't quite home yet. Bus transfer to the car park and we picked up the rent's car before driving home to Langford, which I had left exactly 11 weeks earlier. Exhausted we unpacked before having a lazy afternoon, and early bedtime.
That's the end of my elective adventure to Malaysia! I admit at the start I had many qualms about travelling alone in a foreign country but looking back on it now it was an amazing experience that let me see the country in a different way as well as helping me meet so many amazing people. I hope I will have the opportunity to travel solo again in the future.
PS. Mum and Dad had a great time exploring the (cold) Cameron Highlands from their boutique hotel, The Lakehouse. Somehow they managed to swindle upgrades on the second half of their return flight to the UK and enjoyed the luxury of first class!
I passed my fitness test and the next day headed north, moving into my new house in Yarm on the way to join 37th Newcastle Guides on their camping trip.
