Kate & Rob's Adventure
The information we got was spot on - Great Ocean Road on Victoria's south coast is spectacular. Its only about 200km/125 miles, but we still spent two days seeing the sites. We spent our first morning in Port Fairy in hopes of seeing a few shipwrecks. But the tide was too high and nothing could be seen. However, when the moon and tides work together, six can be seen from the beach. We drove on to Port Campbell National Park and saw some of the most beautiful coastal views. There are rock formations with names such as: The Twelve Apostles (12 rock stacks in the bay); The Arch (a big huge rock arch!); London Bridge (that did indeed, fall down 15 years ago); The Grotto (no explanation needed); and Lord Ard Gorge where "The Ard" shipwrecked 150 years ago. The only two survivors spent the night on the beach here before being rescued by locals. We spent the night here in Apollo Bay and got up early to see more rainforest and hiked to see some waterfalls, lighthouses, and the like. We had a morning coffee break in Lorne and watched the kids on school breaks surfing at the beach.
We are now on to Melbourne and will fill you in on more, and hopefully add some pictures when we get settled. It will be nice to be in one place for more than a few days and be able to relax a bit before heading back to Sydney. Hope all is well, take care and speak soon!
Lots of Love
Kate and Rob
