Kate & Rob's Adventure
Cape Tribulation is the only place in the world where two World Herritage Sites meet - the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barriere Reef. I must say it is an area well worth preserving - gorgeous! We are about 250km north of Cairns and it was an easy drive, except for the last thrity kilometers where the road follows the coast exactly. I had a beautiful view, Rob had a windy, narrow road to follow! It was slow going, but even more time for me to enjoy!
We have spent our time walking the beaches and rainforest, listening to the waves and the birds, very peaceful. We went into the rainforest preserve area and climbed a 23 meter tower to the top of the canopy. Unfortunately it was a bit cloudy and rained so not as many birds soaring as I would have liked, but an enjoyable time nontheless. We are camping right on the beach, litterally 25 feet from high tide.
Tomorrow we start the big drive to Alice Springs and Ayers Rock. It will be three days of desert, nothingness, and very planned petrol stops. We are going to aim to do 500 miles a day but will see what the roads look like when we get to that point! There is little internet or cell phone service, so don't worry if you can't reach us or we don't respond quickly. We promise to be back in touch as soon as we reach a town of more than 1000 people, but that may take awhile.
Until then, take care - we miss you!
