Lost for words!
The view from the top of Cerro Campinario has been voted in the top 10 views in the world by National Geographic. Our expectations were running high on the chairlift ride to the top, and I´m happy to say we weren´t disappointed!
Basically when you get to the top your jaw drops and you go into a state of rapid photograph taking which doesn´t stop until you´re safely off the chairlift at the bottom of the hill!
Though we didn´t have the best day in terms of weather, you can still see from the photos that this place is pretty special. After admiring the views for an hour we stepped into the cafe for hot drinks and a warm up. It had also snowed in Bariloche the day before so the air was a little crisp!
Bariloche itself is a lovely town, the biggest in this region. It´s set on the shores of Lago Nahuel Huapi which we visited earlier at Villa La Angostura (in fact we could see the peninsula we walked on to get to the Bosque de Los Arrayanes from the lookout at the top of Cerro Campinario). It is far more dazzling in its jaw dropping views than nearby Villa La Angostura and San Martin de Los Andes, but it lacks the peace and quiet of the small town, so choose wisely. If you want a bit more action and nightlife then this is your place.
We stayed in 1004, a penthouse hostel with the best views in town! From our room we could see the lake, the mountains, the town.... pretty much every room in the penthouse has a view of something worthwhile. It was a great place to crash for the night and there were many there who´d decided to crash for a while. Its that kind of place.... relaxed if you want it to be, but full of nightclubs and restaurants if that´s your scene. It also has lots of chocolate shops for the chocoholics out there! Tim was surprised he could keep me out of there!
