Thankfully the journey from Koh Tao to Koh Samui was nothing like Chumpon to Koh Tao!! There was no 4 metre waves, no sea sickness, and we were flowing with the current which made things alot faster. We were really looking forward to Koh Samui as this is where we were meeting Jez and Wilba. Jez had arrived the day before so had already sorted us out with some cheap accomodation - which was pleasing as its always a hassle trying to find new accomodation.
Jez met us straight off the bus which was really nice. After catching up we shot up to the rooms for a quick shower - as we were all pretty sweaty, by which time wilba had arrived... great timing!!
Koh Samui was very commercial and fairly expensive, having a real tenerife feel about it. It was nice for a couple of days but not our cup of tea as it did not even compare to other places we have been. We spent a couple of days on Chaweng beach, which was a really nice beach, allowing Jez and Wilba to relax after all the stress's of flight delays etc...
The first night we knocked some cheap beers back at our rooms, before hitting the beach for a seaside dinner which was gorgeous!! The whole beach was lit up along the coast with different restaurants - a little like that of Sinoukville. We chose a really chilled out restaurant where we laid down on cushions on platforms with stilts so the sea comes underneath you which was so relaxing. We ended up sharing a couple of red and white snapper fish (two of our favourite fish out here), with jacket potatoes and salad. This was washed down well with the usual Chang, which Jez and Wilba were experiencing for the first time haha!! After dinner a Thai lad bought a huge snake around for people to hold... Wilba was straight in there. After prodding it and assessing the situation I thought it was about time I cracked my fear of snakes and let the guy put it round my neck. I hated every minute of it, but it was pretty damn cool. Kate and Jez refused to do it, haha. Later, Kate was more than happy to hold the cute little monkey that was bought round- she struggled to give it back lol. Afterwards we hit a few more bars and played some pool. Here, Wilba and I Won 6 quid off the locals. By this time Wilba had mixed the Chang with the spirits (never a good combination) and on the way home had his wallet robbed by a lady boy, thats all we need to say about that though hahaha (all I'm going to say is first night, only Wilba)!
Needless to say the next day was spent on the beach as Wilba and hangovers don't go hand in hand like they use to and we chilled out that night, ending up at a lady boy cabaret show, which was highly amusing to be fair. Kate and I had already been to one with some friends on koh Tao, but this one was alot funnier and more professional! It was very entertaining watching Jez and Wilba, they didnt stop laughing from the time they got in until we left. Jez was very dubious about going in at all but we eventually talked him round. He refused to sit on the edge by the stage though and squeezed in between wilba and me so they couldn't get at him, hahaha!!!!!
The day after we decided to rent some mopeds for the day to check out the island. After a dirty English fry up we headed of, Jez and Wilba on one bike and Kate and I on the other. Watching the lads ride it for the first time was hilarious. I could have rode a bicycle quicker than they were going on their moped, while Wilba had his helmet and aviators on screaming in Jez's ear everytime a car was coming. However, later on Wilba nearly crashed into a tree with Jez on the back trying to turn round. Kate and I were a little further up the road waiting for them - the next thing we saw was wilba driving through these tree branches screaming with Jez on the back and his legs swinging about on the back! It was truly one of the funniest things I have seen on the trip so far, Kate and I were laughing about it all the way home.
Anyway... we visited Na Muang Waterfall firstly, after a cruise past some really nice ocean viewpoints. The waterfall was really nice but not the biggest we had seen. It was about 80 metres with a number of different tiers, the top one witha swimming hole, which was needed after a sweaty climb up! It was made easier however by the random thai guide who latched onto us showing us the way, even though there was only one route up haha. However he did show us which parts of the swimming hole were deep and which parts were shallow so we didnt hurt ourselves, which was good. There was also a mini cave you could pull yourself into and under the waterfall. Once you got behind the waterfall there was nothing there, but it was really fun just trying to pull yourself in there using this rope as the current was quite strong. After an hour swimming the guide took us back down on a more scenic route along the waterfall, with some more view points.
After an ice cream we moved onto Hat Lamai, a beach just south of Chaweng. Along the way we stopped at a chicken vendor and bought two whole roast chickens, which the guy just chopped straight down the middle and wrapped in tin foil with some chilli sauce for us. We bought some bread and drink from the local shop and then carried onto the beach to eat it, it was amzing! There was so much meat!! All the bones and left overs were fed to the local Thai dog, who was mooching along the beach. It literally ate every last bone!! To show its appreciation it drawled all over Wilba's water ruck sack, Wilba was not happy!! but it was very funny! Once our stomach had settled from such a huge feed we chilled little longer on the beach and moved onto a small fishing village (Hat Bo Phut) for a look around . We only stayed there briefly, walking out onto the old rickety wooden pier, watching the locals fishing ofF it. It was a really old pier, but where it lacked safety it made up for in charisma lol! After a quick look in the shops we quickly moved onto have a look at the Big Buddha to enjoy the sunset - as it was a beautiful day and there was clearly going to be a good one! We had a look at the famous Big Buddha on the shore, and then sat and watched the sunset on the mopeds. That night we had a few beers and played some pool ready for a early morning boat trip to Koh Phangan to the infamous full moon party!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
