Hey everybody from Queestown New Zealand!! You last found us about to head off for the Great Ocean Road in Melbourne, we had such a wicked couple of days - the Great Ocean Road is beautiful and we stayed in some really quirky hostels! bloody freezing though! there were so many little places to stop off and see, beautiful rock formations and the sea was proper turqoise too, lots of piccies were taken!! after the great ocean road we headed back to melbourne where we stayed for the rest of our Aussie leg, before flying to the beautiful Fiji!!!
Unfortunately, our flight was cancelled on the way so we were put up in a 5* luxury premier suite...its a hard life!!! the hotel was gorgeous but we were slightly pissed off as we only had 4 days in Fiji so it cut into our time a little bit. Fiji was sooo stunning though, we stayed on a little island called 'Mana' and the Fijians are so friendly, the most friendliest people i've ever met! the facilities and rooms were extremely basic and the electricity is turned off all day, but the atmosphere and the people you meet 100% make up for that. managed to top up our (very slight) tans and taste the local drink...Kava (*don't be fooled by the name, its not the lovely fizzy alcoholic stuff you can buy in Tesco for six quid) its like a herb that is mixed with water in a big bowl, and no word of a lie it tastes like muddy water, and looks like it too! its meant to numb your mouth and lips, but in all honesty it just gave kate and i a new found appreciation for modern toilet facilities, so that was a custom that was not repeated on Fiji!
We could have stayed weeks and weeks on Fiji, but alas New Zeland called and we boarded our flight to Christchurch. we picked up our little campervan (a converted people carrier but suprisingly comfy) and made our way down to Lake Tekapo, an absolutely stunning area sourrounded by snow capped mountains. However, what we did not bargain for was snow.... lets just say Kate and I had definitely packed for Thai weather! luckily the following day the snow had cleared and it was a beauitul sunny day (still seriously cold though!) and we were able to enjoy the phenomenal drive up to mount cook and then on to Lake Wanaka. The lakes here are exceptionally stunning because the water is actually pure turquoise, not from an illusion from the sky and the sun but because as the water makes its way down the mountain it is mixed with some stuff (either from a tree or a rock, i can't remember!) that physically turns the water blue, so the lakes are a stunning sight. After a night at Lake Wanaka we made our way to Queenstown where you find us now, what a cool little town!!! its our second night here, and today we rode a Gondoloa to the top of the mountain and tried out a trend here called 'Luge' which is bascailly go-karting without an engine, it all works on gravity, but was pretty fun! after that we spent 2 hours on a Segway which are literally the coolest things ever, i want one! who needs to bother walking ever again when you could Segway! Tomorrow we are taking part in 'river surfing'...not quite sure what that involves but luckily it involves a wet suit....
Heading off to Milford Sound soon (aparantly the most scenic drive in New Zealand) before making our way up north.
anyway, will update you again soon missing you all loads and keep the messages coming.
love you all
Sar and Kate x
