Hey everyone, a hungover Kate here :S
So, right now me and Sara are feeling pretty hungover in Lake Taupo...its a good job we have a nice view of the biggest Lake in NZ. Oh and first things first, I must mention that yesterday Miss Watts did a skydive from 15,000 ft!! She was so sick of hearing me going on about mine, she had to give it a go...and boy is she glad she did it! And she got an extra 1,000 ft on me :-)
Last time we updated the blog we was just about to do our river boarding in Queenstown. And personally for me, its probably the best activity we've done in NZ. It was sooo much fun! We were basically hanging on to buggie boards along river rapids. I nearly bottled it at the very last minute cus the instructor told us you can gounderwater for quite a long time and the swells are seriously big. But thank god I didnt cus it was awesome. And then we did some other activities in the lake after like cliff jumping, rope swing, slides and hanging on the back of the jet ski! This was the first bit of exercise we've done in 3 months so to say we aching the day after is a slight understatement! We left Queenstown and made the very long drive up to milford Sounds aka the place to get bittne to death by sand fly. These little b*stards actually hurt when they bit you unlike Mosquitos. We did a cruise around the Sound and although it was nice, we didnt quite get why there is SO much hype about it. It was good but not like really inpressive compared to other places we have been. After that we travelled towards franz Joseph as we wanted to go the glaciers. We booked a half day trek which for us lazy sods was just enough, even though it was still a good 5 hour trek. But we had really good fun and really enjoy it. Plus we got free entry to the hot pools which was nice and relaxing...you know, after all this travelling malarky is taking it out of us!
We headed towards the east coast where we stopped in Kaikoura for about 3 days as we had gorgeous weather, woo hoo!! Topped up our tans, but now its faded as it not that hot. While we were there we went Whale watching which was great. Its not 100% that a whale will come to the surface but we were really lucky and even got the million dollar picture of the whales tail when he dived down...pretty cool! We was now coming close to the end of our South Island trip before our ferry crossing to the north, but made stops in Blenheim, Nelson and Picton on the way. After about 4 and half hours on the ferry we arrived we rainy Wellington. Reminded me slightly of old Blighty! I was actually really impressed by Wellington, cool little town. We partied it up a bit there and went to Te Papa musuem, which was cool and a must do in Wellington. And now here we are in Taupo. Gorgeous views and great night life...perfect for us! The Lake actually lies on top of a volcano so the sand in the lake is really hot and there are patches of hot water too. We attempted to find a hot patch yesterday until Sara slipped on some rocks and cut and grazed her knees...not too clever when she was a couple of hours from her skydive and had to kneel down before she got out the plane. We cant wait to show you all our skydive DVDs, mainly so you can have a good laff at us...its not the most flattering views of our blobbly bits!!
Anyway, we're gonna make our way up to Waitomo caves next to do the NZ version of tubing! Wish us luck!
Unfortunatly I leave in 10 days :( I might not update this before then but I'll get Sara to keep it up so you can hear about the rest of her travels. But you'll be seeing me very soon...and I'm looking forward to seeing you all!!
Lots of love Kate and Sar xxxxx
