Unfortunately we couldn´t saty in Mendoza and drink wine forever so on Sunday morning we headed to the bus terminal and caught a bus to Santiago de Chile. The bus took about 7 hours and was pretty uneventful apart from the border crossing which was a bit of a pain. We all had to take our hand luggage off the bus and all of our bags in the hold had to be taken off and put through a belt like you would do in an airport. They had sniffer dogs checking the vehichles, this has never happened before. You´d think that the Chilie/Argentina boreder would be the least likely to have drug smugglers...
When we arrived in Chile i had to ask the bus driver if we were there because it looked nothing like i had expected and not much like a city! We got a taxi to the hostel and then we had a wonder around in the afternoon. Chile seems like the most westernised country in South America! That evening there was a wine tasting session at the hostel so we met lots of other people and tasted a few different Chilien wines although they opened far too much wine, there was lots left over!
Today we got up quite late thanks to the effects of the wine! We took a walk into town with a nice Australian guy called Josh who is staying at the hostel. It´s really good to have him around because he lived in Argentina for 5 years and so can speak fluent Spanish!! We went to a few parks around town and then for some lunch. We are planning on going up to a view point from where you can see the city this afternoon, but the sun has taken it out of us all so we have just arrived back at the hostel and colapsed in 3 heaps! We fly out of Santiago tonight at 11.30pm so by the time i write our next entry we should be in Newzealand! x x x
