It's been a while since we wrote anything on here so thought we should do a quick update.
We both found work quickly in Melbourne. Kate was in the dental hospital working hard with lots of other dentists from the UK (or pommes if you like). I was in a comfortable government job drinking tea and eating cakes, which is something I have considerable experience of and seems to be my niche in the job market.
We worked away for about six months in Melbourne saving some cash which is why there haven't been any blog updates as we didn't want to bore you with:
"Monday - woke up and went to work, ate a nice bit of carrot cake. Tuesday - went to work, sponge cake today, a bit dry. Wednesday......etc."
We did manage a few trips away while in Melbourne to Sydney, Tasmania, The Great Ocean Road and Philip Island. Tasmania was probably the pick of the bunch as it is so different from mainland Australia. It was a really country place and a big change of pace from Melbourne. We went for lunch in a pub where they have a resident pig, which you can feed beer for entertainment. I think it is the tassie equivalent of going to the opera.
After finishing up work we bought a campervan again from gumtree and set off to see a bit more of Australia. We were very sad to leave Melbourne as there was still a lot of parts we hadn't explored and we had a great time there.
Life in the van is going well, we are pretty self sufficient with our cool box, gas cooker, fold up table and even my bike tucked away under the bed. We have been away for over a week now and still not killed each other so the signs are looking good. So far we have been to Wilson's Promentory, Narooma, Canberra and Lakes Entrance. We're aiming for Bundaberg in Queensland where kate has some work lined up for six weeks and i'm planning to pick some fruit (for money, not just for fun).
We will update again soon.
