Vang Vieng is a small town situated on the Nam Song river, south of Luang Prabang. The 7 hour trip was uncomfortable due to the dangerous driving, winding roads and locals on our bus vomiting from travel sickness. When we arrived in Vang Vieng, we were not impressed. The town is a like the rough part of Benidorm. The reason most people come is to take part in a phenomenom called Tubing. This is where you hire the inner tube of a tractor tyre for the day, get dropped off 3km up the river, then gently float down past riverside bars that reel you in to have a beer or two. Tubing was made illegal about a year ago due to moronic westeners killing themselves on rope swings, too many drugs, or being too drunk to handle the strong tide. What we experienced for the day was a much nicer, chilled-out version of what origionally existed. Unfortunately, all the pictures we took of our trip on the river was on our waterproof camera which was dropped and quickly carried away by the river about 30mins from the finishing point L
