So after our dreadful journey we got to sleep at about 4.30am on Tuesday morning, and then i woke up at 7am because a New York girl in our room was up and packing her bag, so i ended up having the free breakfast with her and as we began chatting it arose that there were bed bugs in the hostel!! She had been bitten a lot and said they were in her bag and that's how they are spread and there aren't many ways of getitng rid of them! So that was lovely.
After going online for a bit and having a much needed shower, i went back to the room where Gareth and Nush were awake (althought Nush decided to stay in bed) and Gareth and i moved our stuff to a double room and set off sightseeing. We got the monorail into the centre, and quickly discovered how impossible it is to travel KL by foot, thanks to the huge road without pavements and the lack of subways! But we still managed to get to the old islamic style railway station, and the huge, modern National Mosque, before heading down to Merdeka Square that was completely empty, and didn't have any of the statued we expected it to have! At this point my stomach was feeling really bad, so we had to go and sit down in a cafe, just in time before a brief torrential downpour! We then headed to the lake gardens area, where we dat down in the cafe of the huge bird enclosure, where toucans and other birds came up and nicked potato wedges off our plate! I personally found them a bit scary - some of them had red eyes! After that we went to the planetarium but unfortunately it was closed, so we headed off to Little India, where we wandered round before trying to meet Nush, who we must have just missed as she got there a bit later. I was feeling really ill again so after getting a bit of food in an Indian restaurant we got a taxi back to the hostel where we caught up with Nush who, after catching up on some sleep, had tried to sort out her travellers cheques in vain and had some dinner at good old Subway!
The next day we all got up early to go and get tickets to cross the skybridge of the Petronas Towers, but Nush chose to stay in bad instead as she didn't feel too good, and Gareth and I were delayed by the 3 bed bugs, full of blood, that we found on our bed. EWWWW!!! So we switched rooms, happy in the knowledge that there was atleast a chance in the new room that there wouldn't be bed bugs.
We arrived at the Petronas towers at about 9am and managed to get tikets for 6.15pm, hoping that it would be dark by then, and then we walked to the Menara KL Tower and went up to the top where there were amazing views of the city. Although it seems strange doing two big towers, most people do both as you get different views from each one. after this we got a taxi to the Planetarium, with a driver who asked if i was Gareth's wife?! We managed to get tickets for a show in the planetarium theatre called 'Threats From Space' which was a little cheesy but interesting. Whilst wandering round the actual museum bit, we bumped into a guy that Gareth used to go to school with! Very strange.
Our next stop was Chinatown, where we were surprisingly unimpressed by the market stalls, but i was pleased as i managed to get a phonecard and call my mum! We then walked to the bus station whee i bought mine and Nush's tickets to Singapore for the next day, and then headed back to the Petronas towers, where we did some shopping (at Marks and Spencers where i bought an English apple juice!!) before going up to the skybridge. Unfortunately it wasn't dark yet, but it was still very cool, and we're sure part of a film was made there, Entrapment with Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones perhaps? I was slightly glad to get off it though as it was slightly scary, especially knowing that it can move!
For a "romantic" last evening together, Gareth and I had dinner in the hectic food court of the shopping centre, and then went to see Indiana Jones 4!! and the tickets were only 1 pound each! So that was very exciting.
After getting back to the hostel we caught up with Nush who'd had another fairly relaxed day, and then went to bed coated with my temple balm containing eucalyptus oil as i'd read on wikipedia that it repelled bed bugs!
The next morning i got up at half 5 to call my dad and sister Emma, and then had an emotional goodbye to Gareth. It was horrible leaving him there alone but I knew he would be fine and I had seeing Nat at the airport to look forward to.
Our bus was due to leave as 7am but in the end didn't go until 7.45, although we couldn't really complain as it was by far the best bus we'd been on, with only three big seats to a row! We did have to change buses and wait around for a long time at immigration to get into Singapore, but at about 1.30 we finally arrived there .....
