Sorry it' been a while since the last entry but it's been hard to find the time to tell you all what we've been up to! Since we've been to a couple more places,i'll do it in separate entries ...
So, as Nush said, we were in Vientiane, and after having a fairly lazy day relaxing in cafes and wandering around the town, we did go bowling which was good and got some nice dinner from a little night market. The next day we decided to hire bikes (50p each!) to cycle around the town. By the way, this is the capital of Laos, but is by no means a city; it's a large town really. So off we set, trying to avoid the crazy lao drivers, and ended up cycling along a bumpy dirt track right beside the Mekong river, going past all the locals shouting "Sabaidy!" ('Hello' in Lao). We also stopped at a MAG museum where we read about all of the problems created by UXO (unexploded ordnance) still facing the Lao population, in the country that is apparently the most heavily bombed in the world. It was shocking to read about how much poverty exists purely because people can't risk farming on the dangerous land around their homes.
After looking at some temples along the way and attempting to chat to some Buddhist monks who unfortunately spoke no English, we headed back to the centre where Nush and i decided to treat ourselves ... We went to a spa where we each had a lovely facial and body scrub that came to total of 10 pounds! A tenth of what it would be in England!
The next day we set off at 10am to head for our next destination, Vang Vieng ... xxx
