To start off with the main attraction for Byron Bay that everyone seems to talk about has got to be 'Cheeky Monkeys' which was luckly literally across the road from our hostel which makes struggling to get home at the end of the night a lot easier!
Well obviously our first night was spent exactly there, checking out the incredibly cheap food and nice tacky wet 't-shirt' competitions, Laura had an early one tonight as she was still feeling rough from surfers but Kat stayed out with a few new friends and also met up with Henry again there, who was loving the eyefull.
Byron was beautiful and so relaxed and chilled out, it was that cool and the only place were you would find bands playing on the actual pavements on the streets and restaurant tables venturing on to the pathways. We both topped up our tans today and also felt a burst of energy and went for a run along the beachs' water edge up to the lookout where all the pro looking surfers were strutting and showing off their skills, definitely not a bad sight...
This night was the big one for byron, so of course we bought some goon (cheap box of wine - 4litres) but looked a bit more classy as we chose Rose, lol! Our hostel here had a nice atmosphere, the best we have stayed in so far, there was huge tables outside in the bbq area were everyone started off and got to know each other, and had a giggle. We ventured a bit further afield to the beach hotel tonight with a group we started to hang out with, some of them being room mates. It was the total opposite to cheeky monkeys, with a mixture of all people, they had a live band on and everyone looked so happy and were so friendly and chatty. Met a few people with good sense of humours that were on holiday here, we've never laughed so much. We ended up all going to another bar/club after here were Kat tried a free Vegimite sandwhich (kind of like marmite)?!?! very strange, never known a club to hand out free crust clingfilmed sandwhiches, they were Yuk! Love it or hate it! The night didn't end here though, at first we thought we were heading home after our also free spinach pasty from the bakery because our friends 'had contacts' , we weren't complaining but the choice could have been better, lol! Anyway....the taxi somehow ended up pulling outside an Australian House party were the spent the next part of our night or would you call it morning now because of the time, we're not sure?!?!? Anyway we decided it was time to leave the party for a number of reasons and had a last chill out drink on a beach front balcony with Lauras friend Wes before finally getting home in daylight.
Woke late, feeling quite refreshed considering and went for a lovely lunch with Wes to a recommend Balcony cafe/restaurant, the service was slow but the food made up for it, Kat enjoyed the Mahi Mahi fish and Laura tucked in to her gigantic burger, mmmmm.
Kat left to be a tourist and ventured on the arranged bike ride with Henry up to the lighthouse at Cape Byron, (the most easterly point of Australia), OMG the upwards journey nearly killed her, was seriously unbearable in the heat but eventually made it and the sights were tremendous, to die for, and managed to get some lovely picutres. Laura had already decided she couldn't face the bike ride....but then still ended up drinking rose wine after being forced, ha ha.
This was Katherines favourite place up to present and the fact that she was now feeling well again also topped it!....
We both made a final trip to cheeky monkeys for our $2 meal, (Wow) and nearly got entrered in to 'paint your flag on your chest competition', Laura was game at first which Kat found hilarious but then she eventually realised what it involved....
