Ryan & Kasia's Travels
Hello from the world of Pickles, Sausage and small cars. I am writing to you at 7am here because I just stayed awake from 4am to listen to the 630CHED broadcast of the oilers game on the internet. Can't believe our Oilers. Anyway, I want to say so much but will try to be brief. For anyone who is interested in history from centuries ago or from WW1 and WW2, this is a must see. Beautiful architecture, much of was destroyed during the war and needed to be "raymonde"-thats renovation in polish. See my polish is getting better. I've learned more in 4 days than in 5 yrs because if I don't learn then no one will talk to me. Except for the English speaking cousins.
I have not seen a vehicle with a bigger engine than 2.2L except for the rare SUV. I have yet to see a truck, only small weird looking vans but everyone drives tiny cars. I will take a picture of some for the people to see.(Stay tuned for that).Makes you wonder why we like to kill the environment by trying to outdo thy neighbor's truck with a hummer and then the next guy will buy a winnebego. The traffic lights turn from green to yellow to red like at home, but red to yellow to green like drag racing lights.Dangerous.
Kasia's cousin Marta is a cheerleader for the Warsaw Ligia, which is their Soccer team-oh sorry-Football team. They just played Krocow, which is their intense rival (like Edmonton and Calgary but how intense could football be anyway...whatever) so anyway, they played Saturday night for the Polish Championship and Ligia won and it we watched on TV and saw Marta. But then after awhile the fans who were cheering realized that their not suppose to cheer at a football game, their supposed to trash the stadium...so that is what they did. Not only did they do some serious property damage but there were 57 policja in the hospital. Smart people. So if the Oilers win on Tuesday night I want you all to wreck something that isn't yours. Moving on...
We went to see Kasia's dad's side of the family on Sunday and saw where she grew up and went to school. It was one of my favorites because of how it must have felt for Kasia to see everything again. I got to meet Kasia's cousin Karolina and her Babcia(grandma). It was a nice relaxing day sitting around and talking and of course eating some good food. Actually earlier that day we went to the bigest mall in Europe for a couple hrs-not as big as WEM but has some seriously expensive stores.Mostly high end fashion stores that I can't afford to walk into. Also some Nike, Adidas and Puma outlets.
Today (Monday) we are going to the Museum of War History. I can't wait. On Tuesday we are getting up very early to go to the Black Market. This is what I have been waiting to see. Supposedly you can buy anything from a ripp-off designer shirt to a grenade to a bear golblatter. Surely I can find something illegal to bring home, but don't worry I will pack it into Kasia's bag so I will come home safe.
We have of course been eating good as you can imagine. I have learned to pace myself because there is always more food coming out next..it has become more of a marathon than a sprint as it usually is for me at home. I have also developed a taste for beer at 10am. Not like have a choice but I have found the best tasting beer I have evr hade called Tysek. I am told that you can buy it at home at some expensive liquor stores.
Anyway, I guess thats been anything less than brief but I want to share my stories of exploration with you. I will try to write every 3 or 4 days to give the update. Talk to you soon and GO OILERS!!!!!!!
