Three hundred and sixty hours ago, I found out I got two weeks leave from work, 10 hours later, my husband Matt and I had book two return tickets to Nairobi, 40 hours ago, I finished my last shift at work and packed my bags. 19 hours ago, we hopped on a plane, and now I'm sitting in Abu Dhabi airport using the free wifi loving doing things last minute. That's my style and always has been. We now have a 6 hour flight to Nairobi where we will spend 2 weeks soaking up the kenyan life(while living luxuriously in the high commision complex) with my sister, her husband and adorable baby. I was shocked and sad to hear, while also feeling slightly nervous, about the terrorist attack in the shopping center my sister usually shops at where 30 people were gunned down. But I also have the feelings of joy and excitement because I'm so happy to be travelling and having adventures especially with Matt here. Travelling isn't the same without him. He makes things fun.
So anyway, the flight over was ok. I kept waking up every time I moved because I couldn't feel my legs or fingers. I find it so hard to be comfortable on a plane. The first class seats look so nice. The other problem was that a few times when I went to the the toilet there was ugly colored toilet paper that hadn't been sucked down the hole from the last person eeuk!
When the plane was landing, the sun was rising over the desert and it was everything I ever thought an Arabian sunrise would be. It was big and bright and red and pretty. But the other thing that amazed me while we were landing in Abu Dhabi was the perfect layout of each suburb. It was like the sims game. The roads were layed out in grids and the white buildings were perfect boxes. It was surrounded by sand(possibly sand dunes- I could not tell from up above). It was such a different site, as I never thought that there were cities in the desert. I always expect there to be some green vegetation or blue water. How ignorant I have been. My eyes have been opened today. I guess that's enough for now, after all I'm only 19 hours into this trip. I really just wanted to write my first ever blog but It seems I got carried away.
