Karen's Travels
A very quick entry as others are waiting to use the one computer in town. Had an overnight stop in Tankor where I slept in a very damp room on damp sheets - not pleasant. Songpan is a pretty little town. Have a free day here today to look around and doing some walking. Some have opted for the horse trekking but I thought that might be a little bit too challenging for me! The homestay was a true highlight of the trip and I can't wait to show you all the photos. We shared our home with the family's cows, pigs, dogs etc. I imagine this was what it was like to live in Israel in the first century - it was basic but an incredible experience. We all slept on the floor together and I slept brilliantly (with the help of a Nytol). It wasn't much fun searching for the outdoor 'toilet' in the middle of the night with a torch. Especially when you are on the second storey with a huge hole down to the lower courtyard where the animals sleep! Watched the local animals coming home in the evenings; a pig feeding her young; the woman of the house feeding the calf with a milk bottle - all pretty amazing! More details later. We have 10 hours on the bus to Chengdu tomorrow and then pandas on Saturday morning - looking forward to that. Only 9 days left in China. Love to all.
