Allahabad, India (1st Nov 2007) We had what was quite possibly the most uncomfortable transportation we have experienced so far for the 2 hour journey to the river bank, imagine an old bus where each seat fits one and a half bums and each has a varying distance to the seat in front so it's a lucky dip as to how much leg room you get! We did however get a few distractions along the way. The first was stopping at the point where all three rivers meet in India and rather than having what you might expect to be a spiritual experience it felt somewhat commercial, stalls selling the same items, men offering drugs and children running around with Cobras in baskets! As soon as we stepped off the bus an angry local high on crack came running at us waving a stick shouting abuse and had to be wrestles away by one of the men we seemed to have accumulated on the bus journey! Next we visited Anand Bhaven, home of the Nehru family, Jawaharlal Nehru being the first prime minister of Independent India. It has now been converted to a museum and displays the memorabilia of India's first family, giving you a real insight into their privileged lifestyle and surroundings. The last distraction came midway through the journey in the form of a huge herd of camels parading down the road and so we quickly jumped off for a photo opportunity! It was only mid day as we arrived at our destination point on the river Ganges and saw our home for the next day or so, 4 authentic Indian rowing boats.
