The Abode of Clouds
Shillong, India
We are four travellers.
We booked flight tickets from chennai to guwhati about a month earlier.
We reached Guwahati airport by 8.20 a.m and we checkout of airport by clicking some photos inside airpot which showcases tradition of assam (rhino's )
When we came out a bengali car driver was waiting for us and he simply identified us calling by name .
His name is Kamal and we followed him with our luggages and to the surpise we saw nissan terrano (red colored) we with 4 travellors has amples space in the car.
We decided to start with temple and we went to Kamaki temple which is inside guwahati city. We got VIP ticket for Rs.501 and we were asked to wait in room like tirupathi in South India. temple does not have an idol, we are asked to touch the water in ground and pray. We had darshan after 2 hours and returned to car parking. Then we headed towards shilong. Khanapara is the name of the place in either side of median in road one side of road is Khanapara assam and other side side of road is Khanapara meghalaya. We had breaked at Jiva Veg resturant and completed the lunch. It was raining. No normal water available and only you need to buy bottled water and food is good (not bad or nor too good). On the way we visited umayam lake and we did speed boating there, as rain also stopped. Weather was pleasant and we had as nice time. After that we reached our hotel Best holiday Inn in shillong around 7.30 p.m. Carwala left us saying to get ready by 7.am next day morning.
But we had further energy to roam around in shillong and we quickly took sweaters and took local public taxi from hotel place to Police bazzar.10rs per head sharing maruti 800 taxi . Many taxi were maruthi 800 in shillong, see all maruti 800 were dumped in shillong after maruti stopped production of maruti 800. We had a nice interaction with the Kasi people (tribal of mehalaya) and they speak good english. Police bazzar is much crowded and kasi people itself warned us about pickpocket. It is like chennai Pondy bazzar or ranganathan street in Chennai. After roaming around in police bazzar for an hour we had a dinner on that day in madras cafe in. Food was very normal. Sambar tasted different than in south indian taste. But we wanted to try jiva south in police bazaar, but we did end up completing the dinner in Madras cafe in policebazzar..We returned to room around 11 p.m and we slept. Next morning sun raise was seen at 4.45.am itself it was like 7 a.m in the morning. We got ready by 7.am and Kamal car wala was waiting promptly.
Day 2:
We had a breakfast at local kasi shop (poori shop). We headed towards bangladesh border Dawki village . It is friendly border. Near the border country boating was there. It was a row boat and boatmen rowed to a small island and we breaked there for few mins and on the return we could see and touch some waterwalls along the boatside. We stopped for some purchase and kamal told litche juice/lussy juice manufactured from bangladesh will be nice. We also bought and it was really tasty
Then we went to living root bridge. It was steep and we have nice waterfall inside. It was bit tiresome and we came up and next we visted Mawlynnong the cleanest village as awarded. Local Kasi people were owning the gift shops and then we saw a private bamboo bridge with view point for bangladesh plains on top of roof house. It was too scary to climb up. Somehow we managed to climb up and come down.
Then in the car parking place, we did some purchases in gift shops. We headed back to room shillong. Shillong traffic is horrible it is like any major city traffic. Hotel dinner ordering closes by 8 pm, so we just managed to order as we reached hotel just in time as we stuck in traffic for about an hour while returing to hotel. We had dinner in room itself and we slept for that day.
Day 3:
We headed towards elephant falls as usual we strated by 7.am. It opened around 8.30 only and we saw two falls where we came to know our Hourable Prime minister modi ji also visited. Then we went to garden of caves and we bathed as first falls and we proceeded to visit few more falls at different step and directions. Last one was bamboo caves where we could drink medicinal water in bamboo tumbler and it seems to have medicinal value for stomach. We took the water in water bottle also.
Then we had a lunch in oranage roots hotel near seven hills water falls It was very nice lunch and the taste of south india. Unlimited lunch no sharing. Normal water is available only here. others hotels we are forced to drink only bottled mineral water. Then we breaked at seven sister hills and we saw rainbow which is very beautiful. Rainbow falling on the hills and we could view it from the top of the hills.
Then we went to limestone caves where there were two caves with narrow paths. we adventured both the caves. and finally went to eco park there, we saw the originating point of the seven hills falls and finally came back to room and completed the dinner at room and we slept for that day.
Day 4:
we took the complimentary breakfast in the hotel itself as we started late..
We went to Ward lake at shillong and took some photos in kasi dress and the we went for pedal boating and then we headed towards Guwhati airport. It was choas at airport and with tighted security flight was one and half hours late and we finally reached Calcutta around 8.20 p.m and our layover is only 40 mins instead of 1.30 originally, and then same flight touchdown chennai aiport around 10.25 (only 25 mins delay) and then we booked cab and returned home.
