This tyre looks much older this evening. Today we moved south from Luzern into the Swiss Alps proper. Riding into Andermatt we liked the feel of the place and booked a (rather expensive) hotel room early in the day. Thereafter we were finally able to leave the luggage behind and give the Ducati its head over the Furkapass and Grimselpass. Actually much of the ride was rather sedate. It would have been tantamount to sacrillege to ride fast over these mountains and miss the opportunity to relax and enjoy the vistas.
The roads are steep, scenic and feature many hairpin bends on hills that often had us down to first gear.
There were many spectacular sections but our favourite to date was the Grimselpass, over the top. Cold, windswept and beautiful. We took some pic`s but again, you`ll have to wait a day for them.
Back to the tyres - they proved their quality when we upped the pace a little on the decent from Grimsel and found ourselves drifting sideways through one corner - the white line had been the culprit (or rather the rider for running onto it!) but the Michelin slid progressively and gave plenty of warning. Sandi woke up for a minute though!
It`s hard to believe we have just spent the day riding the Alps - so now we`ll relax with the map for an hour or two this evening and work out what to do next. Life is pretty tough, you know.
See you soon...
