Travels in New Zealand are almost over. I think that I am in love with this beautiful land.
Made the 3 hour ferry crossing from the South to North Island, staying a few nights in Wellington, the capitol city (undeserved in my opinion!).
This past week I have made my way up through the centre of the North Island, stopping at Taupo and Rotorua, reaching Cape Reinga; the tip of New Zealand. In Rotorua I went to the local firing range and shot a few rounds on a hand pistol before being given a free go on the big boy Swedish sniper gun. Not too shoddy of a shot if I do say so myself! While in the area I also tried the NZ invention; Zorbing! In essence a giant beach ball that you sit inside and get rolled down a hill at speed. Great fun!!
Cape Reinga is the sacred area of NZ. Maori people believe that the spirits of the dead travel here seeking peace. To honour this visitors are forbidden to eat or drink in this area.
I will spend my last few days in New Zealand in the big city of Auckland.
