Hello from Cambodia. Just wanted to write a quick update. My last few days in Vietnam were like all the other days in Vietnam...amazing. I went to Tam's for Tet New Year and celebrated with her family. I arrived around noon...a little late because I had to arrange a mototrbike ride from the middle of nowhere Vietnam, because apparently there was no bus driver for my second bus. We found this out after sitting there for 15 minutes in a bus someone had thrown up in. I made it fine though, and was sat at the men's table where it was drinking time. In about an hour, we had done 2 shots and chugged 4 beers (bottom's up I was told). It was great fun though, the drinking ended around 2pm, and Tam and I saw her hometown after that. I was fed very well, and everyone was very nice...so, thanks Tam!!!
After that, it was off to Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Phnom Penh is an anything goes kinda city. I was offered a smoke, opium, girls, but don't worry, I was on my best behavior...except for the shooting range. I did feel the need to shoot an M-1 rifle and a handgun.
I was on my own in Phnom Penh for about a half day, when I heard someone yell my name. I randomly ran into two Dutch girls I met a month ago crossing the China/Vietnam border. It was nice to walk around with someone else, and we may see eachother again in Siem Reap. Yesterday, I went to the Killing Fields and S-21 Prison in Phnom Penh. From 1975-1979 millions of Cambodians were killed by their evil, crazy leader Pol Pot. S-21 Prison was an old school that was converted into a torture center. After the people were tortured and "confessed" they were sent to the Killing Fields where most were beaten to death with clubs (can't waste bullets). It was rather depressing, on par with the German concentration camps.
Anyway, now I am in Siem Reap. I will go see Angkor Wat tomorrow, which should be a main highlight of the whole Asia trip. Check out the Phnom Penh pictures to see what else I did there. I will update again from Bangkok in a few days probably. Stay warm back home...I will try to send some of my 95 degree weather your way.
