We are travellers (with a small t, obviously). There is simply no getting away from it. (In fairness, although 'getting away' might be considered the entire purpose of travel, we rather think we go toward the new vs get away from the old.) We have been enjoying our prime spot in Potts Point and have reached the end of Phase 1. Pray tell, you may be curious as to 'Phase 1' - Pretty much we've unpacked every, single item from our storage pod, sold/donated/turfed out a decent whack of 'stuff' and found spaces (if not space) for all the remaining 'stuff'. We've scanned at least 2 massive storage containers of photos and thrown away the bulky albums (huge gratitude to Google's 'Photoscan' app - without which we could not have accomplished this). We've sorted through 25 years of tax records, bank statements and other rubbish of a paper variety and cut it from two 100 litre storage containers to one, lean and mean 25 litre container. We have been productive and destructive to the Nth degree. And then we packed a freezer carry bag with the entire contacts of our freezer and crossed the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
We love the Eastern Suburbs and Sydney city - so crossing the bridge always feels like a grand adventure. This time the adventure has taken us to leafy Lindfield. Why? A housesit of course - the pandemic may have us trapped in Australia (safely trapped and in excellent health mind you), but nothing will stop us travelling. The purpose of our Lindfield stay? Monty, the Jack Russell terrier. And what a cracking little man he is. The fact that Monty lives in a very nice house with a massive TV, air-conditioning and a pool is by the by...
We have kept ourselves busy with a) walking Monty, b) having a swim at least once, usually twice a day and c) surviving a heatwave. The end of November saw temperature records crash and just prior to the official start of Summer we had two consecutive days of 40+ degrees (and an overnight minimum of 26 odd... suffice to say it was 30 degrees when we got up at 6 am). We walked so very slowly those couple of days and thought fondly of the Irish winter we'd be enjoying were it not for the you-know-what. The air-conditioning was the champion of appliances during that 48 hours and we were very fortunate we didn't lose power - or we probably would have cooked from the inside out and not be here to tell the tale.
We only left the compound once for groceries - and that was only because we were running low on fruit, veges and bread. To delay the inevitable we even tried our hands at making flat bread - which required nothing more than self-raising flour and greek yoghurt - it was brilliant! And kept us from leaving the house for another couple of days. When we finally emerged we checked out the Lindfield high street / village. Very pleasant indeed - even bought fish and chips for lunch.
Well our Lindfield visit was huge fun - It was sad to farewell little Monty and we will miss having him snuggled up in bed next to us. We're planning 3 nights and 2 days to restock/resupply/repack at home in Potts Point and then - then we're taking the Blue Mountains train line all the way up to Mount Victoria in the Blue Mountains. Mount Vic is our next destination, our next adventure and our next dog - Clancy. The travels continue.
