Well here we go again aother country, another (late) post, I'm writing this on my new netbook, which for the technologically challenged is a small laptop.;Hhnce any sloppy spelling can be blamed on tiny keys which i'm still trying to get my fat fingers around.
We landed in LAX after a rather iffy but equally enjoyable flight (kinda like a rickety rollercoster with tv's). All the more comforting seeing the news after landing..
We'd pre booked into a hostel i west hollywood called banana bungalow, which apart from a free breakfast was pretty s***e. This didnt matter so much as we're only in it to sleep but there weren't many people so it was more of ghost town hostel. The hollywood boulevard itself was pretty cool, although the first thing we found was the number of complete weirdos..was like going to brixton at night, but instead of stabbings you get 'pop a cap in your ass son' kinda guys. This could have been due to the amount of time we spent using public transport - bus stops seem to be a magnet for the insane. Hollywod itself was amazing though, we went to universal studios and had a tour of all the sets. Then headed to six flags, which has some of the biggest fastest rollercoasters in the world (made thorpe park look like childsplay).
Both the girls were very keen on seeing celebs, as couple of our roomates said they'd seen seth rogen in whole foods supermarket, unfortunately we werent so lucky.
Venice beach (aka muscle beach) was up next. Although a far cry from thailands beaches and clear water it was pretty impressive and we stayed there for 4 nights at a pretty good hostel. After making friends with the staff we got a free round of drinks in an outrageously expensive bar. All the way up the beach strip, were little stalls with some of the weirdest crap we've seen: magik (with a k) wands, a spoonful of some very questionable salad (for free), 2 headed turtle, doctors who'd give you recommendation for legal hash use and more besides..
After leaving venice beach we got ourselves a plane to san fran which has been our favourite place so far. The city itself is a lot more trendy/hip and although full of gays the beer ain' bad! We hired some bikes and went over the golden gate bridge plus another 20 km which as the most excersise we'd done for a while. Checked out a burlesque show, which housed i reckon all the weirdest people in san fran and i've nver felt so normal. Scarred for life we headed home only to be accosted by a wheelchair bound woman. Nomally we walk by the homeless, being poor ourselves, but this woman was a sly fox and managed to cry on cue and give us directions to an apparently safer part of town all for the price of 16 bucks. Wheelchair bound, crying AND apparantly trying to help we left 6 dollars poorer.
We're now in a great hostel and leave for canada tomorrow. Cannot wait!!
love to all xx
