Alright People, it's been a while since we 'blogged you', but our days have been full of mostly driving and taking in the scenery (which is absolutley outstanding). Last large blog we were in the north island.
we have since made it down to the South island, and made some excellent time, making it to Queenstown, where we have done some more thrill seeking activities, and much under wear changes due to them. Fortuntely due to Justin's sun dancing the weather has held for most the time we have been here. But starting from the last blog, we stayed in Wellington our last night, at a hostel with Amy's friend, who managed to get us some much needed cheap accomodation. After a rough journey on the seas the following morning from the north island, we drove a short journey to Blenhiem, where we scored some more much needed cheap accomodation. We then decided to cross the country, heading towards Hanmer springs, hitting some vinyards on the way. Cloudy Bay was the only one we managed, an outstanding oaky red and apple/herby white wine (we are experts now), and also a rather sour champagne. Afew glasses later we were really really drunk and drove on to Hanmer springs (Got you All, of course we weren't drunk, we were hammered, no seriously we spat it all out). We made it to Hanmer Springs, a Scenic ski-ing resort, with no snow (Thank God!!), we climb a small mountain with great views, and made head way to the west coast the following morning. On the way we got blocked in the road by a heard of sheep and 'cute' Lambs (Quote by Amy). All I could think about was roast Lamb, mmmmm Roast Lamb, its got me thinking about it again (Dam my stomach). we also got blocked by a heard of cows, and a suicidle Cockerill, who almost died under the wheels of the honda. Further investigation we discovered tht he was just upset as there weren't any hot chicks to hang out with (get it, chicks.......???)
Any way, we made it to the Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers, which were stunning, walking directly up to the Franz (Putting a couple of pebbles in our pockets on the way for memories, cheapest souveniers we found) We also completely a couple of walks around a lake, to see the reflection in the lake. We stayed in Franz Josef for the evening, and made some good head way down the West coast, through the rain forrest to Haast Beach, and unbelieably we made it further to Queenstown, where we are writing this now.
We checked in to a hostel yesterday evening, booking two nights, having eaten more noddles than Jackie Chan over the last 2 weeks, we decided to treat our selves to some awesome steak and veg with pepper sauce (here goes our stomachs again), and it was amazing food. We managed a slight sleep in we headed for our first activity.......A bungy jump. We went off a bridge just outside Queenstown, the first commerciail bungy in the world. Amy was first to go, she was slightly nervous, but once she was on the ledge, she made an amazing jump out, and had a freefall of 43metres to the river below. Justin was next, and jumped out, managing to touch the water as he hit the river, and bounced up to pose for a picture mid air (pics will follow) although his stomach was hanging out as soon as he jumped. We both thoroughly enjoyed it, it beats a ride at an amusement park. This is when we had to change our pants, the nerves had got the better of us (not really).
After a 2 hour break we decided to take everyones advice and headed to the Shotover River and go on the high speed jet boats. The Shot over river is an old gold mining river, at its widest point 20 meteres, and deepest 2meteres, you basicly go up to 90KmPH along the river, cutting close to the canyon edge. Amy and Justin decided to not go with the commercial option, but decided to go with a family owned company that had a 1 hour drive on the single track old mine roads, high up in the moutains, with shear drops off the side in to the canyon. we saw some amazing views, and the boat trip was outstanding fun, and as a bonus they used our camera to take the shots, instead of selling us some over priced pics.
Any way that was all today, we are going to make some more awesome food, and head out for a beverage. Our plans are to make it to Milford Sound tomorrow, hopefully the weather will hold for us, if not some naked sun dancing is required by Justin again.
Until next time take care all, and keep the messages coming.
P.S for all of those expecting me (Justin) to be growing my beard, it was decided that it looked so pathetic that the cameras could not even pick it up. I looked like a cross between a homeless man and an 14 year old growing a beard for the first time. so a homeless 14 year old.
Bye bye
