Merry Christmas and a happy New Year from the jungle! The elephants send thier best wishes and some pineapple leaves :)

Been having lots of fun with the elephants here at the sanctuary in Thailand, they are so comical and regal all at the same time! They love being given water into thier trunks from a hosepipe, it makes a gurling sound like water down a drain as it goes down thier trunks! And bathing them in the lake is brilliant, sitting on them to scrub thier head, ears and back is a bit of a balancing act especially if they decide to roll whilst underwater. Afterwards, the treat of the 'Poo Canoe' awaits, where one lucky person gets to sail around the lake in a small boat, steering with a rake, to scoop out the poo into the boat all the while hoping its not runny enough to cover them!

There are 2 young elephants who are very mischievious and got hold of a rake and its now in many pieces! They play together in the lake, jumping on each other and chasing each other in beween all the rough and tumble. Its great to watch. I will miss thier wrinkly bottoms and surpringly strong trunks furtling to steal my gloves, though I have to say won't miss the 6am starts and endless enormous poo cleaning!
