We are here in Dunsborough and it has rained for 3days and 3 nights so we have been a little bored as there is nothing to do, dinner consists of cooking super noodles in the van with all the windows shut so it dosnt rain in!!! as you can imagine it gets very hot and steamy in the van!!!! The weather is now improving and we will hopefully get out diving onthe SWAN wreck which is a massive navy ship that sunk!!!
We have managed to find a leisure centre nearby so we sneak in and have a hot shower which is great after days of cold ones....
Saturday 23rd May
Went for a walk on the beach at eagle point, still slightly windy this morning, saw lots of people down the end of the beach so we decided to go and investigate, got closer and there were 3 landcruiser in the water and on the beach pulling in a net full of Australian salmon, so amazed how much there was! Jools got talking to one of the locals and asked him to see if we could buy one(we did hope they didnt want lots of money for it) He told Jools he could have one if he came out and grabbed one, so he rolled his jeans up and wadded into the water, the man through one at Jools i think they are used to handling them all the time. Jools walked back trying not to drop his tea which looked very hard work. Back onthe beach we borrowed a guys knife and stabbed it in its head to stop the poor thing suffering i had to look away at this point! The brough in 30 tonnes of salmon in that net. Jools gutted and skinned the salmon ready for our tea. It will be a real treat after having supernoodles.
Sunday 24th May
Woke up @7am and looked out of the van windows at the sea, its calm today and there is no wind or rain, thank goodness. We both had breakfast like we do every morning consisting of weetabix no luxurys for us! Got everything packed on the boat ready for diving The Swan (destroyer) which was scuttled in Dec 1997 which is 112m 23m high. on the way we saw 6 dolphins playing in the water near the boat, i tried to do my best dolphin noises to get them to come closer but they soon went away after that :-) The swan sits at 30m so we dropped down slowly and saw the massive outline of the destroyer laid at the bottom of the sea. The navy didnt leave much inside, there is tstill he captins chair in the bridge. went through all the rooms in the inside then we swam around the outside, saw some massive tuna out in the blue when we did our safety stop at 5m.
Monday 25th May
Set out again to dive the swan, the sea is slightly choppy today so decided to bring the boat in and abort the dive, on the boat ramp we lined the boat up to the trailer and 2 huge waves came out of know where and smashed the boat onto the trailer causing a massive hole in the inflatable part, we strarted taking on water but managed to get her onto the trailer, not a good day. We are now heading 3hours back upto Perth to get it mended so i will report in a few days. The good thing is that we are both ok.
