More sunshine and blue skies, I'll never bore of it! I made us some scrambled eggs on English muffins before we headed off on our next road trip north to Robe.
Our first stop was at the Crags, which also provided us with a distant view of Lady Julia Percy Island. I was impressed with the contrast of the strong waves and the stillness of the waters protected by the rocks.
Our second stop at Cape Nelson light station was short lived. Primarily due to a large number of hyperactive horse flies and secondarily due to the out of service lavs!
We drove back to Portland and had a Macca's drink and comfort stop. Our journey continued north on a more direct route than we had intended to Mount Gambier. However, it did mean we drove through Dartmoor!
In Mt. Gambier we stopped to look at the Umpherston sink hole (the first I've ever seen), which had cunningly been transformed into a pseudo subterranean garden. We saw some little birds eating nectar from some fab agapanthus but decided not to go down into the sink hole garden as there were lots of bees and Donks has an allergy.
On our way to the blue lake we stopped to pick up some lunch from the Bay Cafe, where we ended up being told about the owners plans for new work tops. Sad. We think he was very lonely.
The blue lake was just that. The blue colour only occurs in the summer and has been attributed to calcite crystals suspended in the water. All I can say is that it was amazingly blue, like a blue light was shining from under the water... Super blue!
Our road trip continued up the coast, through Millicent, to Southend, where we stopped to look at the beach. It was perfect. White sand stretching for miles, calm turquoise seas and virtually no one there. We strolled along the beach, took photos and got our feet wet. Lovely.
Our next stop was Beachport, which was recommended in various guides but in our humble opinion was no where near as nice as Southend.
The last stretch of driving today brought us to Robe, where we are staying at the airy, spacious and clean Harbour View Motel. We have our own rooms so Donks can snore her head off and I'll not hear a thing!
We strolled down to the harbour and through the town, which had lots of heritage buildings, which have info plaques on them. There is a really nice feel to this place. We enjoyed an evening meal in the Cally or Caledonian Inn. Very UK but with a big Aussie welcome. A good end to another fab road trip day.
