A hint of blue sky brightened my spirits when opening the curtain this morning. Despite having had the heater in low throughout the night and 2 wool blankets on my bed I had still woken up cold. Making the most if the kitchen I had eggs and beans with sausages for brekkie.
I decided to try and see some penguins without paying anyone. I wasn't particularly hopeful but thought it was worth a shot. I had expected lots of walking opportunities on the peninsula, a bit like you'd have in the UK. However, this is not the case as most land is farmed and walking tracks are scarce and short when you do find one. I parked and took a very leisurely stroll to Sandfly Bay, which fortunately didn't have any of its namesakes. I sat in the hide watching idiots getting far too close to the sea lions who were quite content lying on the rocks. The walk back was more challenging, uphill, through sand dunes. It was very pretty but I really could have been in Cornwall. No penguins.
I satisfied by my short walk I drove to Glenfalloch Woodland Garden and spent another hour pottering around these gardens with a mixture of nicely maintained gardens and a unkempt forest beyond! Having covered pretty much all the tracks which were passable I fell asleep in some welcomed sunshine on a picnic table... The bench bit, not actually on it, that would be odd, even for me.
On awaking I decided to drive and go for another stroll at Allan's Beach. Now, that's just like being in Cornwall too, except on a bigger scale. For instance, I've never seen two guys and a dog on a buggy with their boards to reach the surf! I saw a lone sealion lolling on a rock about 2m above beach level but no penguins.
I returned to cook some hollow spaghetti- it's not that bad Gary! I've been quite domestic with some washing, ironing and now for some packing. I had a short but very welcome chat with my fiancé, who is safely back in the Raven nest... Sorry Ravens, I tried to keep him here!
