I started my morning trying to find a weather forecast on tv and ending up watching NZ's Phil & Fern equivalent for a while. I filed my nails and did nothing, and enjoyed it!
The map I have of Auckland describes it as NZ's big little city. Having spent a day pottering around I now understand this. It takes less than 20mins stroll from one end of Central Auckland to get to the other and yet there seems to be a lot that has been packed in.
Before I left the UK I had booked myself into the East day spa at the Grand Hotel and I'm very pleased I did. Having been primped, preened and pummelled I walked out having had the most relaxing spa experience ever and with tamed eyebrows!
I was in a bit of a daze following this, but wondered around Auckland taking in the sights and watching people. I picked up a freshly tossed salad for lunch and shared some softish croutons with some crazy little finches in a hidden square with a pretty water feature. The pigeons here are very dark feathered and as I watched them trying to steal food from the LBJ's they reminded me of Dementors!
I was running out of time so decided to go to the museum of art. Unfortunately I got distracted by the equivalent of a Japanese pound shop. I went in out of curiosity but came out with a bargain purchase; 2 cups, 2 bowls, a wooden spatula and a plastic lidded storage box all for about £10. Perfect for future camping trips! Deciding to drop of my new purchase at the hotel before going to the art museum was a fatal mistake. I had a dangerous power nap which ended up being a 5 hour sleep... I wonder how long it will take to get over the jet lag?!
Having just walked around the city to get a feel for it at night I think the answer to my last question may be, a long time!
