Another rude awakening from the cockatoos, thanks birds!
Today we didn't leave quite as early as we had anticipated. But, we were soon in the car and on our way towards the Blue Mountains. After a couple of hours on the road we arrived at a lookout point by the Three Sisters.
We spent some time looking at the spectacular scenery, which to me, looked a bit like a tree covered Grand Canyon. The blue colour to the mountains is a result of eucalyptus oil suspended in the atmosphere. We then took a short walk to the first of the three sisters but were unable to go any further due to a landslide on the Giant's staircase.
We drove around the rim of the plateau and found a nice spot for a yummy picnic lunch. A short walk led us to part of the Leura Falls, in the Katoomba region, where we all went climbing on rocks and dipping our feet into the water in this glorious day. We followed the path down alongside the falls and stopped to look over the edge as we watched water tumbled down the rock face. Kieran and I trail blazed a step path/ steps down to the bottom of the waterfall, walking briskly past the sign advising poor track conditions. We were followed by The others and were all rewarded with excellent views of the falls from below.
After some time playing around we embarked upon the steep ascent which aggravated various joints in all three over 18's! You could feel the distinct temperature rise as we gained height. After rehydrating at the car (Bruce), we headed back to the bright lights of the Gong.
We headed straight into town to get fish and chips, which we ate sitting at a picnic table in a howling gale, terribly British of us! Connie spent most of her time shooing the gulls away!
I think we all slept well with all that activity!
