Hey,
Feel much better today, due to jet lagg, heat and feeling overwhelmed I spent most of yesterday in a daze. Also forgot to mention, that when I got in the Tuk Tuk on way home from night market I tripped and ended up face down on the floor. Never mind, only the driver and all the people on the street and stalls behind me saw. Joy!
Was up and out by 6:30 this morning, which is amazing as I am still a little jet lagged, only had 4 hours sleep and didnt get up until 6:10 (very impressive for me, as it normally takes that long just to drag my sorry ass out of bed), only for my tour bus to be 30 mins late (Grrrr), never mind it gave my hair a chance to dry (which it did all fluffy).
The weather is very hot, blink and you sweat (even at 6:30am). a Thai man I was chatting to said that it is hotter then normal and more like weather in India.
Went to the floating markets today (on a tour). Took about an hour to get, which was mainly spent chatting to a couple of girls from Germany who arrived yesterday for the first time as well.
Transfered to a long boat to get to the market, which was great, except for the fact that when I was getting on the tour guide started to scream at me "in front madam, in front" Which I thought was a bit rude as
1) the boat was quite sturdy - I dont think I would have sunk it!
and
2) he kept calling me madam!
The boat trip was great, caught a brief glimpse of peoples homes and lives and a different perspective from the husstle, busstle and commercial of Bangkok.
Transfered to a gondola(?) type boat at the market (and yes I sat at the front).
The floating market is fantastic, truely, truely mad.
The sights, smells, vibrant colours, heat, people.
Everything is amazing.
People shouting and battering, boats selling every kind of Thai tourist tack you could think of, beautiful old Thai people in there hats selling noddles, pancakes, fruit, coconuts etc, boat jams and boats crashing.
Fantastic. I just soaked it all up.
I loved it!
And, yes, (as usual) I did take loads of photos ;-)
After the market there were options to go elephant riding and to a snake show. Neither of which I did, instead waited in the lovely air con/fanned drinking areas. Outside was a beautifull young elephant that was made to perform every time a new bus load pulled up. Kicking balls, twirling hoops on trunks etc, and people were paying to have photos taken with him.
Just wrong,
After that had a buffet lunch, of which I had noodles, bean curd and stir fried veg, very nice and welcome as hadnt eaten since yesterday morning. (what with the spicey food and heat/sweat I may come home a size 10 - Nah).
After lunch there was an elephant and crocodile show, which I opted out of, (think I may have annoyed the guide as I was the only one who didnt want to do these), instead I went to a traditional Thai culture show, which was ok, but a little cheesey, Thai dancing, singing, boxing and a man who could keep a ball in the air - strange.
It was so hot everywhere today, that as soon as you step out of the air con you are damp rag/
Well, thats it for today as this place is shutting soon (I got chucked out of here last night, I was the last one left, they had closed everything and even turned off the lights and I was still typing away - opps) and I am ready to crash as I am out at 7:30 in the morning. Plan is to go to the Grand Palace and see the Emerald Budda and then change hotel (goodbye comfort) and start the tour in the afternoon. Hope I am not the one. Ha. ha. Ha!
