An early start today - 5.15 wake up and 6.15am set off as we were headed north to Busanga Plains - a vast expanse of grassland & mounds with trees and bushes on top, which is underwater during the wet season and is a large lake with a complex of small islands. We opted to start the day with another walk so at 7am we set off in a different direction from camp - a circuitous route to the river lagoon confluence and back to camp. We found leopard tracks - made in the early morning- along with civet tracks - - but no animals. We were woken at 6am for a 6.30 breakfast - but I had been awake on an off since 4am and could here the deep call of an eagle owl in the tree behind us, along with fiery necked nightjar and a hyena just before 6am.
