A lovely day in Homer - the rain cleared - but it's still not looking great for our trip to Brooks Falls tomorrow. Anyway we need to be grateful for the beautiful day that dawned today and the view out of our window -of the snow capped Kenai Mountains with glaciers nestled in the upper valleys, all connected to the enormous Harding ice-field.
After breakfast we headed to the Carl Wynn Nature Centre where we had an excellent guided nature tour - our guide pointed out plants - included two types of orchid, birds - the American robin, the spruce grouse and 2 young who flew into the trees but were spotted & photographed and a snipe - and signs of moose who had walked through earlier.
We bought a combi ticket - this enabled us to join a nature tour on the spit which we did at 1630; we had a really interesting hour looking and all the life living in the harbour - particularly the anemones, kelp, sea urchins and star fish - it was great as this is an area we usually overlook.
In between the two walks we had lunch at a cafe, returned to Alaska Islands and Ocean centre - saw the moose & young in the bushes - and walked the boardwalk to Bishops Beach - only about 30 minutes. Finally we went to the Spit and had an ice-cream - it was now quite warm- while we waited for the tour.
On our way back to the B&B we went to Safeway to pick up goodies for our packed lunch tomorrow and a salad for dinner tonight.
