Let me start off by saying Barcelona is the best time I've had so far!
The start of my stay in Spain was quite shaky. My bus from Paris was delayed and I got in at 5am the morning after I was supposed to check in. Once I got off the bus I couldn't work out where to go. There was no one around to ask for directions but I eventually found my way to the metro and, shortly after, my hostel.
Later that day my friend from Australia arrived at the hostel and we spent the day exploring - there is so much to see! That night we had a few drinks at the hostel and met some locals, and some Dutch people who we got on very well with.
The next day my friend and I decided to go to the Picasso museum and I had my first encounter with Le Sagrada Familia - God's cathedral. We didn't go into the cathedral because the line was enormous but I decided to extend my stay so I could go back. That night I met a polish guy and a girl from California and decided to have a few drinks and head out. The club we went to was free entry and very contemporary but was majorly over priced with drinks - 7 euro for a beer!
The next day my Australian friend had to leave but it was alright because I had my new friends. We went back to Sagrada Familia but once again the line was huge and it was pouring rain so we didn't go in and just made our way back to the hostel and hung around until dinner where I met a guy from New Zealand. We had a lot in common and chatted all night. We exchanged details and I plan to visit him in Wellington sometime in the near future.
The next day I we to Sagrada Familia and spent the whole day there. I can comfortably say that I have never seen anything more impressive in my life. It's really one of those things you have to see - I can't explain. It is very spiritual in a way when you walk in and it takes you by surprise on entry to the hall. I have decided to come back to see it when it is finished. Later in the day my new NZ friend and I met a couple of Australians who were playing poker and joined in. It was a quieter night in comparison to the other nights but it was awesome just the same.
The next two days were a little more subdued - trying to save money - but a lot of fun was had none the less.
Spain is an amazing country and it's one that I KNOW I will return to...
Next stop, SWITZERLAND!
