I finally made it to Austria!
Salzburg. What a place to start my Austrian adventure. It's the most amazing place I have been so far. Not only is, the old town small and very close by, there an aldi across the road from my hostel, there mountains surrounding me, the place covered in snow, but it's the home of The Sound of Music! Simply the ultimate winter (or summer) tourist destination.
At my hostel I met some very cool people. As always there were a couple of Australian girls who I got on very well with and I also met a German guy who I also got on very well with. Later in my stay another Aussie girl from Brisbane moved into my room and we got on very well.
The hostel was great. Had a perfect view of one of the many mountains surrounding which was nice to wake up to, was across the road from aldi and had a great common area and kitchen. What else can you ask for!?
The days I spent in the old town, doing my own tours to Sound of Music sights, other attractions and buildings, and checking out the Christmas markets. I love the Christmas markets because everyone is very cheery, you get a great vibe and they get me excited for Christmas!
The nights were spent with my new friends either going to the local hockey (twice), watching the Sound of Music with virtually everyone else in the hostel or just sitting around, having dinner and a few drinks. I didn't go out here but I didn't need to, plus it was too cold!
Salzburg is such a nice town and I'm sure I will be back before this Austrian adventure is over.
