Hi everyone I haven't written an email in a while as I haven't been in civilisation that much so I thought I'd give you an update on what we've been doing and where we've been doin it.
I think the last email I sent out was from Surfers Paradise. From there we went to a zorbing place which was halarious me, Gem and Marie in a big plastic ball full of water rolling down a hill. If we weren't good friends beforehand we definately were by the time we reached the bottom. I ended up rolling down the hill backwards some how with all 3 of us sliding all over the place. We got to the bottom and could not stop laughing!!
Next we moved on to Brisbane for a couple of nights. Everyone had told us not to bother with Brisvegas as its not worth but we had a really good time. Brisbane has its own little lagoon and luckily the weatehr had changed from the rain we had in Surfers and we had a lovely sunny day.
From Brisbane we moved up to a little town called Noosa where we went to Australia Zoo (Steve Irwins zoo). It was so much fun I fed an elephant and stroked a koala, a kangeroo, an echidna, a baby aligator and a possum they were all so cute. We watched the croc show which was done that day by Terri, Steve's wife. They are all absolutely crazy when it comes to crocs and were jumping in the pool with it and stuff to try and make it snap at them an jump for them and do death rolls a little scary I thought!
We stayed in Noosa for 3 nights and then moved up to Hervey Bay where we met up with our 4x4 pink jeep and the other 5 people who were in our jeep and headed off to Fraser Island. Fraser is the worlds largest sand island. Its crazy everything is made of sand and it gets everywhere. Driving the truck on the island was wicked we were driving up and down the beach and then I managed to go the wrong way and ended up driving down this horrible track for miles following one of the other trucks in our group. We camped out both nights and had lovely sandy food which we had to fight with the dingoes for. We saw so many digoes it was ridiculous they were everywhere! They came and savaged our camp on the first night and got someones hat and sarong but that was about it. There are 2 beautiful lakes on Fraser which were amazing. We couldn't swim in the sea as there are loads of Jelly fish and sharks. We saw one tiger shark come within about 1m of the shore chasing a fish.
We didn't really get on with the people in our car as they were really anoying but the other car in our group was wicked and we made friends with about 5 of them who we have continued up the rest of the east coast with. Yesterday was a bit sad as we all came to the end of the road in Cairns and had to say goodbye to everyone asd we all head off in different directions hopefully our paths will cross again whilst we're still out.
From Fraser we travelled up to a cattle farm in the middle of nowhere called Krombit. At the farm we did clay pigeon shooting (I manged to get 3 out of 5), a goat rodeo where I had to lasoo a goat and one of my friends had to flip it over and then brand it (so funny we had no idea and the goat really didn't seem to mind). We did whip cracking (Imanaged to break my whip in half) and went on the mechanical bull (Ilasted 3 secs not very impressive). We also went on a ride in the back of this old jeep thing with the guy who ran the farm, he was crazy! He drove through a tree, not around it through it and knocked it flying! We came accross a tree stump which was too tall to go over so out came the chain saw which had been jumping around in the back with us for a while and he cut down the tree stump!! At one point we were speeding all over the termite mounds when the drivers door and the back door flew open! It was a really good day. I think it made it that all the guys we had gone to fraser with were there as well so we carried on the fraser fun on the farm.
Our next stop was Airlie beach where we met up with our boat for the Whitsundays. Our boat was a little sailing boat called the Southern Cross. We had a brilliant time. The guys on our boat were really cool, a really mixed bunch ranging from 19 year olds to a retired couple and we all got on really well (good thing too as we were on the boat 24 hrs for 3 days with no escape). The Whitsundays were amazing, they are the beginning of the great barrier reef and we did loads of snorkling and I even joined up with a dive boat and did a scuba dive which was amazing and would definately do it again. We saw so much wildlife it was so cool there were turtles and loads of fish and birds (I felt like I was on the Finding Nemo set). We even got to help sail the boat. We had to hoist the two masts and me and Gem even steered it for a while on the last day. Our sea legs were pretty good (none of us were ill) we only felt a little dodgy on the second day when we were out on choppy seas for a long time trying to get to Whitehaven beach.
Some of our boat joined us on the next step of our journey up to Magnetic Island where we spent Australia day. This island litterally is paradise on earth (apart from still not being able to swim in the waters due to jellies and sharks). We spent most of our first day in the pool relaxing with everyone from Fraser and the boat.
From Maggie Island we moved up to Cairns which kind of seems like it was the end of something. On the way up we stopped at a Croc farm and we held a croc and a snake!
Marie left us in Cairns and went back to Sydney for a couple of days and is probably just about to board her plane back to the UK now. We went up to Cape Tribulation (the worlds oldest rainforest) for a couple of wet days in the tropics and went out on another boat to do some more snorkling off the reef. This time we saw a shark and loads of stingrays. I was really scared but gem had the underwater camera and wanted to get a good photo so she swam towards it not away! We went on a cruise up the Daintree river and spotted some crocs in the wild and liked a green ants bum which tastes like lime and gives you a little electric shock on your tongue which is really weird.
We said goodbye to our friends last night and this morning flew into the outback where we are now. All I can say of Alice Springs at the mo is its all red!! We start our trip to Ayrs rock tomoro and I am prepared for getting a lot more red!
