First thing in the morning we hopped onto a long boat which took us over the river to Huay Sai in Laos, luckily this only took about 2minutes because when we got there we realised we'd forgotton to get stamped out of Thailand, so had to go back then back again! We then got on the slow boat along the Mekong which took 8hrs to reach Pak Bang, which is a little village where we stayed for the night, it was really out in the sticks and there was no electricity after ...

Last night was our first very cold night, its a lot colder in the north, especially when sleeping in a bamboo hut! Today we chilled out, we had a look around Chiang khong, although there isnt much here at all! We walked along the river which was nice, and had a relatively early night!

In the morning we caught a 3hr bus to Chiang rai, we caught a posh bus which cost a little more, although it was very comfortable! In Chiang rai we decided to jump straight on a another 3hr bus to take us to Chiang khong, this time we we got on a very old bus which although was hot and uncomfortable it was a lot more fun as every time it went over a tiny bump we were literally thrown off our seats! Today we went to Kangkued national park where we started the day with elephant riding, then we went on an hours trek to a waterfall... which was quite cold! We ate lunch by the waterfall which was followed by some white water rafting which ended up with a massive water fight with another boat! The scenery was absolutely beautiful, and so relaxing.

We got off the night train at about 9:30am and caught a bus to our hostel. Chaing mai is really nice, it has a lot more thai culture then Bangkok (which isnt hard!). In the evening got a tuc-tuc up the mountain to see the famous Doi Suthep temple where we watched the sunset. We finished the evening with banana pancakes!
