The last 3 days have been full of traveling for me. I first set foot in playa del Carmen, Mexico for a quick one nighter and had a great dinner with Chels and MIke, I was pretty tired from flying that day so we had a shot of tequila after dinner and hit the sac. I got up the next day just in time to find out the bus was full to Chetumal (Mexico-Belize border) and I would have to wait till 9:30am for the next one. I met a couple from Edmonton and also a couple from toronto who I shared cabs with over the border to Corazal. At this point it's 4pm and I'm already in the mood to keep moving so I Kept with my fellow Canadian travelers to the Corazal airport and caught the last plane to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye. The plane looked a little sketchy and only carried 5 passengers but the ride was smooth none the less. Below me I could see the clear blue waters of the Caribbean set next to the verdant mangroves and marshlands.. Beautiful. Gotta love the Island life! I arrived just as the sun was setting and stayed in San Pedro for the night. The hotel was a dive.. But only $15. Pretty decent place until I reached for my tooth paste in my bag and pulled out a cockroach! scared me pretty good but didn't bother me as much as the club across the street. Got up this morning at 6 walked around the town of San Pedro before hoping on a water taxi to Caye Caulker 45 minutes away. this tiny Island is absolute paradise, palm trees hang over the white sand beaches and the ocean is full of marine life. Reggae music is always bumpin and rasta locals are characters. I checked my email a couple hours after I arrived and I had one from couchsurfing.com a social network for travelers and like minded individuals. somehow a Dutch girl Mara had seen I was nearby and messaged me saying she would be arriving on caye caulker today as well. So of course I went and met her at the docks and she's got a room here too. Just my luck a good looking, blonde, English speaking, 19 year old showed up on the same island traveling alone.. luck or not the Internet is an amazing tool for travelers. Also been hanging with a guy from London and another from Amsterdam. I plan to stay here for the next 5 days till the 8th. The relaxed island vibe is not something I want to rush through! Much love to all back home :)
