Hi Guys,
I realise that I have fallen a bit behind on my journals. I am currently freezing my balls off in a place called Cordoba, Argentina. However in an attempt to catch up a bit, this journal is the one I should have written last week, so you might have to bear with me whilst I retrace my steps.
We left Potosi and drove to Uyunai salt flats. The salt flats were indeed bizzare looking out to miles and miles of blinding white salt crystals, you indeed get the feeling that you are in some sort of Matrix movie. However we had a great day here taking a ridiculous amount of photos and finishing with a great sunset before an amazing pizza.
After spending a couple of days in Uyunai we moved further south to a place in the middle of no where, Tupiza. Actually I spent my birthday here doing very little but chilling by the pool and recharging my batteries.
The next day we continued our journey, crossing over the Argentine border which was a joke, 2 and a half hours, has got to be a record! We made our way to the colonial city of Salta. It was here that we were supposed to have a big night out for my birthday, however as it was bitterly cold none of us wanted to stray further than 2 metres from the roaring camp fire. So instead we had a great evening chatting around the fire, with a few beers. The group even splashed out on a delicious chocolate cake and fireworks. It was so nice!
After spending a couple of nights in Salta we continued southward to another random camp site in the middle of no where but a setting for a few outdoor pursuits. On the first day, we went ziplinning through the canopies. This basically involves attaching yourself via a harness to a wire and easing down a hill in the air. I guess like a big flying fox! We started off all excited about the tour, and were driven to a spot where our German guide mentioned we have to climb up what to me looked like a cliff, naturally I made a little nervous laugh at this point, presuming or rather hoping he was joking. I realised he was not when he failed to smile. So up we go, up this cliff with these giant like boulders and once again realising my fear of heights I was a tad on the nervous side so to speak. We made it to the top and were attached to the wire and I was quite literally bricking it again as I looked down to the sheer drop below. Regardless I persevered and attempted the first zip line. As you are in control you have to not only concentrate on staring ahead rather than looking down but you have to stop yourself before you get to the end of the line by using our gloved hand on the wire. On my first attempt I actually slowed down to a stop right in the middle of the line and was then found dangling, whereby I had to manually pull myself to the end. It was bloody scary. However once the first one was out of the way I was able to get the hang of it and enjoyed the remaining 9 zip lines immensely.
On day 2, we had the option to go rafting, and as I have always wanted to do this I was more than happy to sign up. You will be amazed to hear that for once I found this an activity which didn't't scare me s***less! It was so much fun, ridding the white water and laughing our heads off. It was awesome.
Ok, that is probably enough for now. Tomorrow we are off to Buenos Aires, which will be fantastic as it means that we can actually stay in a hotel. After spending the last 10 nights freezing in a tent, it will make a welcome change. I will do another journal in a few days to get up to date.
I hope everyone reading this is well.
