Arrived in late at night into Miami Airport and hopped into a taxi to take us to the Miami Everglades Camping Ground! The reason we are staying here is because there is no beds in Miami due to Spring Break and the music festival being on! No biggy we are checked into a log cabin in the Everglades!
So we jump into a taxi and ask for the Miami Everglades Camping Ground. The driver doesn't understand us because we speak English and he speaks some other language! So we show him the address! He is convinced he knows that he is doing but I had an inkling he didn't! We get on the highway and firstly we almost miss our turn off and he almost takes out a motorbike and also gets pretty close to being hit by a car! Just as long as he gets us there in one piece I don't really mind!
The meter gets up to $80 and we still haven't found the turn off! Probably something to do with the address I gave him that was only half! How was I to know it was miles out of the way! Anyway we ask a couple of people and they do not understand the taxi man because he can't understand us so we have to get involved! American people do not understand us becuase they are stupid! So you see its a vicious circle! Its midnight and we have been driving now for about and hour! I'm not happy!
We get back on the highway after receiving the full address from Hannah that we met in NZ. Apparently the taxi man knows where he is going now but before things start to get better he almost misses another turn off a cop car has to swerve to miss us! How he didn't get pulled over I will never know!
When we actually arrive at the camp ground the total balance is at $180. How crazy is that! At least we got there and we are in one piece! Its 1.30a.m. Waking up at 11:00 so that we can check out we ask if there is a tent we can hire but you see the resort is run by a witch and she says no you have to bring your own! I mean what kind of resort won't let you rent a tent! She says that there is a Target down the road and we can buy one if we like! I like her thinking, outisde the box you might say!
Our next question to her is if its possible for us to leave our bags anywhere as its a fair distance to the shop! She looks around and says ' NO! You will have to take them with you'. This woman was getting on my nerves now, she was expecting us to walk 6 miles with all of our stuff so we could buy a tent and then walk 6 miles back so we could stay! i think not! We opted for a taxi, which was an hour late!
When we finally got to Target we bought what we wanted and then phoned up a taxi which incidently was 2 hours late! So we sat out in the sun waiting for the taxi man to turn up! When he did turn up we loaded up the taxi with our bags, our day packs and all of our shopping bags but I failed to put my new Adidas shoes in the back of the car and they were left on the shopping cart!
That pretty much tipped me over the edge and when I phoned the store to see if they got handed in noone spoke english! How could we travel through China and manage to have conversations with people and then when we get to USA we can't even speak to someone on the phone! Its a crazy world out there! I feel a little guilty to the person on the end of the phone!
