Hello Readers
After some time, I have managed to find myself a computer, which turned out to be in my own hotel. My experience in NY city has been good so far, I'm finally beginning to get my bearings of direction; the amounts of times I've mistaken east for west and so on.
I've been keeping myself a little diary, so here goes.
Monday 3rd May - The flight from LHR to JFK was rather tedious and long, I spent most of the time watching films and television programmes, including Sherlock Holmes which wasn't too bad. An extra bonus of my flight was I had 4 seats all to myself; I was not the only 1! The immigration line through US customs was as you can imagine; long and frustrating as well as no A/C (perhaps this was done purposely to make us sweat and uncomfortable). Despite my negative comments here, it came as a surprise as to how easily Americans can pass through back into their own country compared to us British Citizens back home. Finally getting through the line and past the customs, I had the task of finding a taxi; I was approached by an indepedant taxi driver but thought I best stay on the safe side and get one of those famous yellow cabs, which was great. My hotel is nice, but my room is rather small and hot, after hearing that my A/C shall be fixed.
Tuesday 4th May - Another long tiring day, went down to the financial district. One of which was the World Trade Centre site, which was rather moving as was St. Pauls Chapel which was where 9/11 fireman, police etc had sanctuary, if only for a few hours. Caught the subway, qhich was rather scary at first; Two americans were there for assistance, although 1 of them I couldnt understand, although I think the general gist of what he was saying was about the beatles. I walked across Brooklyn Bridge which was really good, that was one of the highlights. It's rather hot here and I got a bit sunburnt on my arms as well as the back of my neck. I have these pigoens flying near my room which is annoying; shoot the bleeding things I say! Awfully tired last night.
Wednesday 5th May - Walked up to Midtown today (no subway at all today - feet ache, feels like blisters) and saw Grand Central, United Nations, Chrysler Building as well going to the top of the rock aka rockefeller centre. That was amazing; the views were tremendous especially Central Park. I must say I haven't been eating much over here; although I have ate more today. I went to Wendys for breakfast and Goodburger for tea, with "the works". I found out the other day that my phone works over here (sending texts) which came as a surpise. Looking forward to when the tour starts I must say. Despite being in the big apple, being here in the city that never sleeps on your own is not the nicest. Going to do West Midtown tomorrow near Macys, Madison Square Gardens etc.
Anyway until next time, love to you all, Jonathan
