Day 47 (Saturday 2nd December 2006)
It was up early on the hunt for cars. Keith took us back in towards the city and after test driving a rather sorry looking Holden Commodore, we finally made a bargain purchase on a Ford Festiva through an old friend of Keith's.
'Fran', as she's now known as, is a delightful little car, similar to what our Ford Fiesta would be back home. She has power steering and air con, luxeries we certaintly weren't used to, but what sold it was definitely the green and purple flashes accross the sides!!!
The car was on sale for $2,999, but as that was well out of our price range and the guy and Keith went back a long time, we managed to skank it for just $1,600!! That is 666 quid (no one has pound signs around this part of the world???) and it should get us to Melbourne and then who knows?
We followed Keith back in our nice pretty little car and Marc made sure we could tune in the cricket on the radio. Needless to say, as soon as we got back, Marc and Keith were straight down in front of the tv to watch the rest of the cricket. Amazingly, Sarah, Jo and Liam tore themselves away from the test match and went in to the bedroom to watch Pirates of the Carribean II...baffled?
Being quite the lover of all foods, Jo maybe heard Marc's passion for mash potato and so to keep the fussy b****** happy, served up a nice sausage casserole with mash for dinner. After dinner we all went to bed pretty early...we guess all the excitement of going to Cudlee Creek tomorrow was too much...!
Day 48 (Sunday 3rd December 2006)
Stopping briefly on the way in to Keith's work mate's house to pick up the tickets for the cricket tomorrow (yippeeeee), we made the morning journey down to Cudlee Creek to visit its fabulous Gorge Wildlife Park...Liam throwing up round every bend!
The Gorge Wildlife Park, which opened in 1965, is the home to many species of animals and birds. Half of the stuff is out of cages and as well as some exotic creatures from around the world, all your favourite Australian creatures freely roamed around us. That meant kangaroos and finally we got to see a 'skippy' for ourseles. To make things complete we even spotted wild kangaroos from the car that same day!
We saw heaps of cool stuff including wallabies, emus, rheas (wasn't she suposed to be doing us a barbie?), black swans (they're all black here), wombats, dingos, pelicans, echidnas, fruit bats, water dragons and lots, lots more, before finally the highlight of the day...'Cuddle a Koala'! We both got to hold Charlie, a rather plump little fella, who seemed more interested in munching his eucalyptus! As if things couldn't possibly get any better, Marc found a cool little Australia fridge magnet to add to his little collection...bless!
Next up was a trip to Ria's in the Para Hills for a barbecue and Liam wasn't sick once the whole way there! It was great to see Ria, Marc not having seen her for nearly six years and Sarah for the first time. Her partner Dan, who cooks up the best barbie in South Australia, was really nice too and they told us about their recent engagement. They had a lovely house and invited us to stay with them before we left Adelaide, which we definitely plan to do.
Before we left we made use of their broadband, Keith not having a phoneline let alone internet connection and headed back home to the Barossa. On the way home we dashed in to a supermarket to grab a load of chocolate and spent the rest of the day watching cricket and stuffing our faces!
Well the test match is nicely poised, should be a draw though, but who knows Marc could see England stage an incredible victory tomorrow at the Adelaide Oval...
