Luxembourg American Cemetery, Luxembourg
I decided to come here based on one person, general Patton. After seeing his grave and walking around to see hundreds more, I realized just what a price we paid coming into World War II. This is not the only American Cemetery in Europe but I saw what I needed to. There is a list of soldiers that their bodies could not be found or recognizable. There were also hundreds of these. Taking this in, me and a buddy went to the german military cemetery. There were two distinct differences between the two cemeteries, respect and honor. Respect meaning that on each grave stone in the German military cemetery there were four names whereas the American on had a single name on each. The second difference was honor. In the American cemetery there was a distinct feeling of pride and awe while walking through the lines of gravestones. But walking down the path of the german cemetery gave a sense of sadness because you could tell that this site was rushed and only put her due to necessity rather than respect for the dead.
