We found beer for 6p!!!!!!
Had a great boat trip around Halong Bay...Disappointingly the trip wasn’t quite a booze cruise though! But we still had a good time and the bay was beautiful, we sailed inbetween limestone peaks, and stopped at a cave at one point. The scenery reminded us of Yangshou in China...was a great view. Our cabbin was nice...better than many of the hostels we have stayed in! and the food was bought to the dinner table in abundance!…met a great Kiwi girl…Claire! and also a nutty Vietnamese girl called Hang...she was amusing!
Thankfully we got the bus with our group straight back to Hanoi…where this time we found the locals much more friendly! Jen Claire and I managed to haggle the price of a room and are all staying in …what I can only describe as a shack?! We aren’t actually in the hotel; we are up a further flight of metal stairs outside...in a room, which is made of plastic panels. The roof in the bathroom leaks and the walls would fall down with a tiny bit of force! It’s a laugh though and we all just about squeeze into it! oh and cant be bad...we have cable tv! woooo!!
Hanoi hasn’t got the greatest weather at this time of the year and has been raining, so when we got here yesterday at 4 there wasn’t much else to do apart from start drinking! Was such a funny night, not knowing the layout of the city at all we ventured on a slight bar crawl…only to get caught in a rainstorm...wearing our shorts t-shirts and flip-flops! proper tourits! After trying to avoid the rain by hiding under canopies we gave up and walked through the streets saturated! Eventually we reached a friendly bar and has a few more drinks…when we left the barman was nice enough to give us all ponchos! For some reason mine never actually got itself on my body properly....was a mission...maybe it was the alcohol...but i still say it was an odd shaped one! and these two local women (and Jen and Claire) all has a good laugh at the stupid drunk English girl!
After walking the city lost …we reached another bar and met some cool guys, later we all ended up drinking on little plastic chairs at the corner of a road…and the local beer was being served up in abundance by some jolly Vietnamese woman for literally about 6p!!! Didn’t taste that great but who cares! For 6p I couldn’t complain!
After taking an exhilarating ride on a motorbike taxi we ended the night at a Vietnamese Club! Didn’t see one fit man, which I was quite disappointed about! But the Vietnamese aren’t really my type!!!
Great time though I must say not feeling on top form today! Just had some yummy rice, which I hope will sort me out!
Chill out day today, and tomorrow we get a flightback to Bangkok!! meeting up with some lads we met there before for a night..who are going back home! then....to the Islands!!yay!! The rain here hasnt been very nice, its like being back in the UK!yuk!
Had a great time though in Vietnam, preferred the weather in the south by the beaches but have enjoyed the atmosphere up in the north and the boat trip was great! Love the little local friendly sellers...all selling Pringles and Oreos! They never fail us! they even rowed up to our boat to sell us cheap wine on the boat trip!
