Sunday I evening I arrived at my hostel in Nha Trang which would be my base for a couple of days. Hostel was nice enough. I pretty much immediately booked my self onto an island trip for the following day. Didn't do a great deal that evening, I went out for dinner with a couple of sound German lads staying in my dorm but it was a quiet one really.
On Monday I got up fairly early to do the island trip. It was decent and included snorkelling, sunbathing... the usual... a floating bar in the sea... oh and lunchtime karaoke! These Asians are weird. In a nutshell just after lunch the boat's crew perform as a band (quite why who knows?) and the they go round the whole boat asking every Westerner where they are from, telling us they will have a song for each of us... I smelt trouble on the horizon from an early stage and even worse I was the only Brit.
Well what I had feared happened... not only for each nationality would they perform but they would also get the people from that country up on stage and give them a microphone!! Groups from France and Italy reluctantly cooperated... when it came to the solo act from England I kind of felt obliged to get up there (note - stone cold sober at this point)! It was mortifying the had me doing Wonderwall by Oasis in front of about 30-40 people... I wanted to die!!
The evening was spent planning the rest of the Asia portion of the trip having done something a little crazy... got a fairly early night only to be kept awake for a decent chunk of it by people in my dorm having sex, drunken louts... oh and if I'm not mistaken a local hooker! Oh yes, I loved it.
On Tuesday I bumped into a couple of Scottish lads I'd met in Saigon. It was a pretty chilled day as I had a sleeper bus to catch at 6pm. Just went down the beach, mooched around etc. I met a bloke from ROMFORD of all places!! Small world.
The bus itself was alright. I can't say I slept a great deal but I could at least stretch my legs out straight. I arrived in Hoi An about 6.30am. After a few hours sleep I went out exploring. It's a nice little town and kind of feels like I thought Asia would... as opposed to the craziness in the cities. I quite like it but I'm only here for the night...
Tomorrow I catch the overnight train to Hanoi (the capital of Vietnam). The journey takes about 14 hours... but it's meant to be pretty good in any case... and I get to follow in the footsteps of the boys from Top Gear!! From Hanoi I've got a trip to Halong Bay firmly on the horizon...
The old sun tan is coming along nicely too...

Mum Can't think of anything worse, Wonderwall by Oasis and sober too. What a shame it wasn't video'd. Your fellow dormees should be ashamed of themselves, I'm disgusted. xxx
