Hi all I am sitting at the Rwandan airport waiting to fly to Johannesburg,. Today has been relaxing to say the least, slept in, late breakfast ,then our friend Arthur took us to the genocide museum . This is for me like going to the pearl harbour monument or our own Anzac Day ceremony. The amount of people who were killed was horrific and distressing , these were Rwandan killing Rwandan , just that one side was called Tutsi and the other was called Hutus . These killings began as far back as 1962 the year of Rwandan's independence and gradually grew to when in 1994 the then presidents plane was shot down by his own people ,who then released the propergander that the Tutsi had killed their president and called the Hutus to arms to destroy their enemy. From that fatal night more than 2,000,000 people were slaughtered in many in humane ways . All of this happened in one year and although the world was aware of the civil unrest and the U.N had information to help prevent no military assistance was ever given. Countries like France and Belgium have many questions to be answered, as they were the powers behind the power.
After we had seen this historical museums we went to lunch with Arthur at a genuine Rwandan restaurant , nothing flash but it showed the traditional type of food eaten every day. It was called Chez John. That all because our plane is calling.
Luv Shirley & John.
