We awoke today tied up along side the City of Linz in Austria. We had a reasonably early start today so we could visit the city of Salzburg. Boarding a bus at 8.15am we headed to the city made famous by the film and musical Sound of Music, or so you would think based on the number of references to it during the trip.
We stopped on the way to have a comfort stop and to get a photo opportunity with a lake and the alps. Don't you just love organised tours?
We arrived into Salzburg and were entertained by Elizabeth Von-Trapp, native of New Hampshire (grand daughter of Captain Von Trapp). She had a wonderful voice but I did wonder if we had signed up for the Sound of Music tour.
Following the concert we were whisked through the city, being shown several highlights of the City and being introduced to the history. As with all things European, centuries and even millenniums just rolled of the tongue of the guide, it just highlighted how young Australia is.
Following the tour we had some free time to explore the city. We managed to look at local handicrafts, mozart chocolates and the local delicacy boiled fresh sausage served with mustard and shaved horseradish.
We also had time to tour Mozart's birthplace which is now a museum dedicated to his life. We then returned to the boat. To fill in time before dinner we ventured out into Linz to have a look at the town.
As usual I have posted photos of our experiences that I hope you enjoy.
